Steve and Eydie married in Las Vegas way back in December 1957.
They are always a top attraction there, and elsewhere.
Here they sing that great standard FLY ME TO THE MOON .( In Other Words)

From wikipedia:
"Frank Sinatra recorded the song on his 1964 album It Might as Well Be Swing accompanied by Count Basie. The arrangement by Quincy Jones has become the rendition by which most people recognise the song. Jones changed the time signature, which was originally 3/4 waltz-time, to 4/4 and gave it a 'swing' feel. Sinatra's recording was a hit and was played to the astronauts of Apollo 10, on their lunar mission. [1] Sinatra also performed the song with Basie on 1966's Sinatra at the Sands, and on 1994's Duets II, his final recording of "Fly Me to the Moon" and his final collaboration with Antonio Carlos Jobim. He also performed this song in 1969 TV-show "Sinatra", there he dedicated it to the Apollo astronauts "who made the impossible possible".

"Fly Me to the Moon" is a pop standard song written by Bart Howard in 1954. When introduced by Felicia Sanders on the cabaret circuit, it was originally titled "In Other Words". The song became popularly called "Fly Me to the Moon" from its first line, but it took a few years for the publishers to change the title officially."

THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK
song IN OTHER WORDS (FLY ME TO THE MOON)
Music and lyrics: BART HOWARD (1954)
sung by Eydie Gorme in the LP EYDIE IN LOVE (1958)
Lyrics:

Poets often use many words
To say a simple thing
It takes thought and time and rhyme
To make a poem sing.

With music and words I've been playing
For you I have written a song
To be sure that you'll know what I'm saying
I'll translate as i go along

Fly me to the moon,
And let me play among the stars
Let me see what spring is like on Jupiter and Mars
In other words: Hold my hand!
In other words: Darling, kiss me!

Fill my heart with song,
And let me sing forever more
You are all I long for all I worship and adore
In other words: Please be true!
In other words: I love you!

In other words: Please be true!
In other words: I love you!

  • You must be referring to the style of

songing known as ¨Belters¨. Very popular

at the time Eydie recorded this song.

    Other belters Ethel Merman, Barbra

Streisand ( early 1960s), Judy Garland,

    etc.

  • I love you Steve and Eydie. You will always be a favorite. The music will live forever, it has beautiful meaning.

    Love will prevail.

  • I love everything Eydie Gorme sings. She is my most favourite artist followed by Steve and Frank. It is really difficult to choose one over the other. Eydie and Steve together are phenomenal and in my opinion the best singers past, present, and future. Thanks Albert for posting amazing Steve and Eydie videos all the time. I truly appreciate it.

  • @primogennaio You are entitled to your opinion but I know many of Eydie's fans would disagree. I am one of them. I've been a fan for 41 of my 46 years. Frank Sinatra the Entertainer of the Century definitely would have disagreed because she was one of his favourite singers. Sinatra could identify talent and recognized she had it in abundance.

  • I'm sorry for all my comments, but I keep listening, and with every note Eydie is singing (and Steve too), it just gets better and better!

  • @liebtiff Amen! I have to agree completely! Thanks for sharing that great comment!

  • I so enjoy the song "Fly Me To the Moon", but I've never heard it from Eydie. Of course, it can only be outstanding if Eydie Gorme is singing it! My Mother absolutely loved her, and I have always loved her also. Steve Lawrence is equally outstanding! Thanks for posting this!

  • I'm still looking for these Eydie recordings to make their way to youtube: "Tell Him I Said Hello", "I'll Be Around", "Don't Go To Strangers"

  • I've heard of Steve and Eydie but I've never heard them sing. They are good. I'm impressed

  • They did Vegas when it was still Vegas.

  • Singing is melody and harmony. Listen to Mama Cass Eliot, Joan Sutherland, Licia Albanese, Gwen Stefani, Ethel Merman, Dorothy Benham, Licia Albanese. They carrier a tune and it was melodious. They did not shout. All Eydie Gorme did on stage was shout. A difference. She did not sing.

  • @primogennaio Singing is controlled screaming.

  • Wow, Awesome Shots and Perfect Music too! Just got back from Vegas today. Compared to my pics, MY how things HAVE CHANGED! This is a wonderful montage!
