This is the second edition of my "Modeling the female torso" video series (you can watch the previous one from the playlists). This time, i'll use box modeling instead of poly-by-poly.

The program i use is called Blender (i'm running version 2.49a, also known as 2.49.2). It's free and you can download it from here: http://www.blender.org

Here's the cheat sheet for the hotkeys: http://download.blender.org/documentation/BlenderHotkeyReference.pdf

The reference image i've used cannot be shared, you have to buy an account for that. You can use this instead: http://www.the-blueprints.com/blueprints/humans/humans/10294/view/female_figu...

All suggestions are welcome

Thanks for watching!

  • hi there. very nice editing and thank you for the video. i was curious how you've gotten your model to be so shiny and to have what looks like multiple lighting sources (red'ish and silvery white). the lighting and the model both look great so i was hoping to find out from you. ^^

  • @shejc I'm just using flat shading plus 3 light sources! You can enable the third light (which is disabled by default) from the program's settings!

    Thanks for watching :)

  • @Togusa86 wonderful! and thank you so much for the video to help me find it, i appreciate it. ^^ the extra lighting really seems to make the model's form more realistic and understandable for the contours. again, thanks and great work!

  • @shejc You're welcome :)

  • how do u get blender into 4 screens like that

  • @ThePivotCenter You have to right-click on the border of the view to divide it!

  • Fantastic. Simply fantastic. I think I will try your approach in 3ds Max. Thanks for the video and the inovative ideas.

  • I managed to avoid all that extra work you did for the hips by simply adding an extra loop to the thigh and adjusting from there. Just thought I'd let you know.

  • @DarklvlAge Here's what i did step by step:

    1. I've selected the two vertexes (RClick on the first one, SHIFT + RClick on the second one)

    2. Created an edge (F key)

    3. Subdivided the edge to create a new vertex in the middle (W Key -> Subdivide)

    4. Added the existing vertexes in the bottom (SHIFT + RClick on each of them) to the selection

    5. Created a face (F key)

Hope this helps! Thanks for watching!

  • I'm looking at 7:30. What did you do from there. I see you deleted faces.

    1) How did you add faces back on?

    2) How did you select each edge without using "B" on the keyboard?

    3) How did you subdivide that line at 7:36?
