awsome

the title is an irony

@pvigil1995 However, it does suprise me what you say about some (or most) American's attitudes towards science and Darwin. It is odd because the US has the most advanced scientists in the world, the most resourceful scientific equipment and more money for scientific research than any other nation on earth.

@pvigil1995 Well to be honest actually there isn't a huge appreciation for him here in England outside scientific circles, but he is generally ackowledged as a big figure. He appears on the back of £10 notes along with the Queen. That pretty much shows how important he is in the UK.
The Church of England (and some Catholics) apologised for their initial reactions because it is accepted that he never actually denied God's existance but offered an alternative theory on how we came about.

@dezboss Good God imagine that happening here in the IS, it hasnt and I don't think it will even if modern science is based on Darwin, Ive not seen a statue even in the science museums in Washington DC! And I heard about the Church's apology, THAT also isnt likely to occur, most of our churches are Protestant, even the Catholic Church has accepted his theory. As I believe, Catholics even in the Dark Ages had trouble with the six-days thing! Prot's since Luther have been partial to Genesis story!

@dezboss On that side note, I envy your luck! I'm agnostic as well, not very many of us over here in the states, though I'm getting my classmates interested in Darwin, evolution, and the lot. I take it Mr. Darwin's far more popular across the Atlantic, especially his nationality of England, am I right?
-
@dezboss Yea throughout the Western world we have the most people who believe the Genesis account and it's pretty much a qualification to run for office to believe it :( Few people even no Darwin was a Christian beforehand, even I just discovered that thanks to this movie, I saw it in a bio class and my teachers from London
@pvigil1995 Yes, there is a big statue of him on the grounds and one of the buildings is called 'Darwin House'. They are very keen on promoting him there, You should check the school's site out, it's a great place. I believe Cambridge University does the same, although I wouldn't know as I am an Oxford man myself.
Yes, here in England Darwin's work is generally accepted, mainly by the Christian community. In 2009, the Church of England actually issued an apology for their initial reactions.

@pvigil1995 That is a shame, and I think the most misunderstood thing about Darwin is that he never at any point said that God doesn't exist, because he like everyone else will ever know that. Darwin was an agnostic, as am I. But very few acknowledge that.
On a side note, I have always had a keen interest in Charles Darwin, as I am an alumnus of his old school Shrewsbury.
