The song is about the use of agent orange, a defoliant that was used during the Vietnam war, it essentially killed all the trees so the enemy didn't have a place to hide.

Over 20 million u.s. gallons were sprayed during the war. Over a million people have been effected by its use. Over half a million children we're born with birth defects due to its use. To this day most of the land still wont grow any plants, trees, or crops. Not to mention the effects it had on u.s. vets. It's a protest song.
