  • i love your playing..... you area one man band.... been playing guitar many years.... just now learning chicken picking merle travis style style...

i know all basic bar chords but how do you learn all the different positions of one chord.... do you have to learn music theory..

  • Thank you! Yes, learning all the above is important to play in this style. You know, I have a DVD for sale entitled "How to arrange any song for solo guitar" and even have a sample of it on YT. Perhaps you may want to get a copy... Thanks!

  • hey Jake, I'm a student at UofM Ann Arbor. I know you're from the area. Do you ever play for the university?

  • Hi. Yes, I do a variety of jobs for many U of M departments but they are mostly holiday or cocktail parties so not quite open to the public. On the other hand, I play weekly at The Earle restaurant as well as Mercy's, the new restaurant at the Bell Tower Hotel so come on out and bring a friend or two. See you!

  • kaje you've just hooked me into your playing :) thanks for arranging such a masterpiece :) how long have u been playing fingerstyle?

its always my dream to be this good at it :)

  • Thanks! I'm not really a finger-stylist as some of the acoustic guys out there are, my right hand technique is below average from that standpoint. I rely instead of some jazz knowledge and improvisation applied to my favorite pop songs. BTW, I have a two hour long DVD lesson on how to arrange any song for solo guitar if you are interested. Thanks again!

  • this is really great man. like really really great. but can i suggest a softer, less twangy tone?? something you would get out of an e series. that is literally the only thing that i can criticize although... because you got it man.
