Sakura

Conocido en Japón como "sakura", el florecimiento de los cerezos es un hito en el calendario japonés, marca el final del invierno y simboliza la fragilidad de la existencia humana.

Cada año, la flor del cerezo brota con energía a finales de marzo o principios de abril y cubre el ramaje con un espectáculo de pétalos rosados, antes de caer al suelo unas dos semanas después de su nacimiento.

Aprovechando el poco tiempo que dura este regalo, los japoneses rápidamente coordinan su festival de Hanami. "Hana", flor en japonés y "mi", del verbo ver, resume el propósito simple. A la sombra de los Sakura, reunidos con las amistades y la familia, y compartiendo los alimentos que todos aportan, los japoneses celebran la vida.

El amor por el cerezo en Japón está enraizado en su antigua historia, porque ya en los tiempos de los samuráis estos guerreros apreciaban la frugalidad y belleza de estas flores, que identificaban como una alegoría de su propia existencia.
