NASA's Space Shuttle Discovery was launched on Saturday 29 August for the 13-day STS-128 mission to service the International Space Station. Among her crew is ESA astronaut Christer Fuglesang from Sweden, who is performing his second spaceflight.
Discovery and her seven astronauts blazed into orbit on a spectacular midnight flight; favourable lighting conditions meant that Discovery and its huge fuel tank were visible over Dublin, flying in formation after they had separated at the end of the eight-minute climb to orbit. The orange fuel tank was clearly visible below the white dot of the shuttle as they passed quickly overhead.
Dublin? That's far, amazing!
