Passenger Jet Goes Off Denver Runway; 38 Hurt

A Continental Airlines jet taking off from Denver veered off the runway into a ravine and caught fire Saturday night, forcing passengers to evacuate on emergency slides and injuring nearly 40 people, officials said. The cause in unclear. (Dec. 21)

Airline companies better get their shit together.  Supposedly there is something wrong with the rutter on the planes(according to pilots who fly these planes).

Wondering if the take off was aborted before or after V-1. DH is a pilot for another airline, he thinks if the plane was 2000 feet from end of runway, it was probably aborted after V-1. I'm just glad everyone is OK. A year ago, DH's plane veered sharply off the runway landing in Chicago b/c of a brake wiring problem, everyone was OK on that one, too. (He was FO and was working radio.) He told me back then, things would have been much worse had there been a ditch or a ravine.
