  • Awesome? You're damaging your cymbal everytime you do that not to mention that music wise...I doesn't help for anything...if u can incorporate that sound to your music you should change the type of music you play

  • ya i know that. but the cymbal waznt mine lol. but now i dont realy do that any more

  • It's a cool trick, I use it alot. Watch so you don't "scratch" the cymbal too hard as you might harm the cymbal in the process. Thick cymbals should be okay though...

  • ohh i didnt know that.thanx man.

  • @alessandrogambino musicwise I must say that It helped me a lot for a special effect I needed to do... :)

  • Cool sound, man. Check out Helmut Lachenmann. He's got some cool sounds, too. Keep experimenting!

  • the point of making music is to create sound, i really dont see why people dont consider this drumming when its a percussive instrument and you make sound with it

  • @defector1968

indeed, the 101's can take quite a beating. I play on Stagg DH so my cymbals are a little thinner. They sound great though.

  • @MrDead especially the paiste 101 do that as often you like lol

  • @alessandrogambino

that is the dumbest comment ever... open your ears and mind or go back to listening to maroon 5

  • @alessandrogambino

In concert band we had to do this in a song, so yes it can be incorperated for certain parts. It really doesn't hurt the cymbal, because we did this for a song, but it might if your sticks where covered in steel wool! lol

  • What?! You mean to say that if you play progressive, experimental, or avant-garde music, you're wrong? I love this technique, personally. Leave the guy alone.

  • So critiscism is the best fuel....

Good thing percussion doesn't have feelings...so.

And for the record, cymbals are made in a certain way for a reason, the fact THAT YOU CAN do stuff like this to the cymbal, does not mean it's meant to be done this way. YOU wanna do it, be my guest, but I think, THINK, that it's a cool sound, it's not drumming though.

  • I think hitting the cymbal as you would normally do does more damage than that. It's probably more damaging to the stick.

It's a cool sound effect. It doesn't have to be "incorporated" into music.

    You basically just insulted percussion.
