@cdnerds Actually, I bought the i7 960 to understand the CPU architecture. I'm an OS developer looking to take advantage of all these new technologies. I also process a lot of You Tube video, so having 4 cores really helps!

95% of the people that will buy this will do nothing more then read email, surf the web and play farmville. Its pretty sad.

Funny how the 920 model is sufficient in many ways when OC:d to over 4GHz with air cooling (I've done it). This CPU is amazing in so many levels.

Things that make core i7 up to 4 times faster in video encoding than a core 2 quad at the same clock speed:
- Returning of hyper threading: core i7 is able to scale 8 threads from its 4 physical cores, improving multithreading performance, if application supports.
- Turbo Boost technology: overclocks the active core, getting max performance for that thread
- QuickPath: more data flow between CPU and chipset
- Triple channel memory controlled by CPU's integrated controller, getting more bandwidth
