Sooooo...
It just wouldn't melt that boro glass. What are your gas pressures when you use the National 3A? If I have to use the same pressures as my Carlisle, I might as well stick to it as it has a wider flame.
Love your videos. I find them very helpful.

Have to make this in two posts as it limits the number of characters in a msg.
I bought this torch hoping to be able to use less oxygen (lower pressure) than I use on my Carlisle cc as I have to beg a nice strong young guy to come move those oxy bottles for me when they run out. They're too heavy for me. But, with the largest tip it came with (#5 single port) and lowered oxy and propane pressures, I could not smooth out a 3/4" marble. Part 2 coming....

pardon my terrible spelling.

as you can probly tell i am just thinking of getting into glass blowing. Im trying not to just jump in without precaution. I need to figure out what are all the necisarry items that i need to get. I have been doing some homework and have read about such things as regulators and connecters and other things. just trying to figure out the cheapes/best way for starting in this hobby. Your answer would be much apriciated.
Could you fire polish the top of a thick wine bottle do you think?

@thebrooklynflash Yes but you would have to anneal it immediately after to keep it from cracking. If you don't have a kiln you would be better off sanding it.

@TimiaGlass what does anneal mean? and so you think as it cooled it would start to crack?

@thebrooklynflash Annealing is the process of releasing the stress in the glass so it doesn't crack. Wine bottles are soft glass and will crack if you heat it too fast and will definitely crack as it cools unless it is immediately placed into a kiln for annealing.

in that case what are my options with oxygen

Rent/buy bottles or buy a oxygen concentrator. Bottles are the best way to go in my opinion because you get higher pressures and the oxygen content is higher. But for small work like beads an oxygen concentrator is sufficient and would save money over the long run.
