Myrtle Irvin Green, 2010 recipient of Art of Sound's Heritage Bridge Award, played with Smitty and her father, H.G. Irvin in the family band before the boys, Smitty and Roy, and H.G. moved to Washington, D.C. to play in some of the nightclubs there. Smitty, Roy and Myrtle's grandfather was legendary banjo pioneer and three-finger innovator Smith Hammett.

I watched these guys before I went to work every morning in the mid 1950's. Smitty was one of my early influences to take up the banjo. Great footage! Thanks for posting.
