Daughters already sound like Jesus Lizard. Their first ep was good, then the singer stopped being himself and now thinks he is David Yow........... If they pick any song to cover, it has to be from the band they already rip off..

For all Lex's artistic and intellectual posing where he THINKS he's cutting edge, the reality is that he's a talentless fuckwad with about as much intellect and talent as Forrest Gump. Therefore, the fact that it never occurred to him that "duh, covering the latest band we're trying really hard to be exactly like may not lend itself well to our bogus claims of authenticity" doesn't surprise me at all.

... The Jesus Lizard would have been blown out of the water. My guess is that if Dave Yow were to know about Daughters, he would like them. But if he didn't, he can go back to the 90's where he came from and suck Kurt Cobain's decomposing balls. But the ultimate point is that, while I love the Locust, you must admit, that they sold their souls to make a record, and then you bought one, AND THEN they toured with Daughters in 2007. I rest my case.

the general obsession with "originality" on this discussion indicates a LACK of originality of the discussants. But, if it is necessary to prove the difference between Daughters and those bands, that can easily be done. If anything, Daughters COMBINES the styles of those bands. It's true, the Locust is an inventor of "Mathcore," but that doesn't mean Daughters SHOULDN'T DO mathcore. On the other hand, Arab on Radar DID NOT INVENT guitar sliding. I think that people are too uptight, so what that Lex sings in a way David Yow does? That doesn't mean that it's a cheap rip off. Is every band that uses screams and grunts after the first band who did so (no idea who it was) also ripping off? Not in my opinion.

I love the way Lex and David Yow sing and when I compose a song with that kind of singing it is not because I wanna rip them off, but because I think it's great and would love to put it in my own music.
