I had forgotten how much I enjoyed bits and pieces of this classic. I wish Rachmaninoff could have done the piece somewhat differently, as those pieces are incomparable.

@AnOrganCornucopia I disagree. I don't generally go for steinways... I much profer Boesendorfers or Bechstein, but for this concerto, a steinway only has the amount of volume and power, a ringing, clear and metallic tone. afterall, this piece of music was composed ON and FOR a steinway. It was debuted on a steinway, always played on steinways, and recorded on steinways. I think it would be interesting to hear it on a different piano, but it's nonsense that you NEED a boesendorfer imperial.

Wow I wish I could have been there. Too much money for me.

Would have been interesting to have been there - the Grand Court seems to test recording engineers like no other space! Pity Filsell's piano is a modern, brassy, metallic Steinway - for this kind of thing you really NEED the bigger, mellower tone of a Bösendorfer (ideally the Imperial).

@AnOrganCornucopia This was not a high-quality recording by any means, so don't judge it too much by this. I hope that a real recording was made so that we can enjoy this music for years to come! I'm sure a professional recording would sound much better.
