MALTA-Mosta: Feast of The Assumption of Mary 2011

This video footage shows live recording of the traditional procession that took place at the Mosta Parish Church on August 15, 2011. It is one of the many Maltese cultural religious feasts.

The tradition has been passed down for some 500 years since the Medieval era, celebrated by the Knights of St John.

Besides the procession, the video also covers, streets decorations, band marches, showing segments of live singing of Ave Maria by a tenor on the parvis of the church and another version sung by Thea Garrett and aerial fireworks.

O Del Cielo Regina (O Queen of Heaven) - Music by Anton Miruzzi, lyrics BY Anthony Azzopardi.

Both above played by the Nicolò Isouard Band of Mosta under the direction of Mro Emanuel Spagnol.

It was accompanied by the Shalom Choir Mosta under the direction of Mra Rita Vassallo.

The Antifona: Virgo Prudentissima (Very Prudent Virgin) - by Mro Paolo Nani.

The Nicolò Isouard Band and the St Mary Philharmonic Society, both of Mosta accompanied the procession.

The Very Rev. Fr Mario Tong was in charge of the Feast.

Brief info of Mosta:
Mosta is a town situated in the middle of the island of Malta. It is one of the biggest towns or villages on the island with a population of just under 20,000.

Mosta celebrates the feast of Saint Mary the Assumption on the 15th August. This is a very popular feast among the Mostin and tourists alike.

Mosta has two great band clubs: Nicolo' Isouard and St Mary and also has two fireworks factories both of which make spectacular mechanical and aerial fireworks.

Mosta boasts the 3rd largest unsupported dome in the world. The church is also known as the Rotunda and it's a very majestic building dedicated to the Assumption of Mary. Dedication date 15 October 1871.
