SAN FRANCISCO - Coast Guard crew from Air Station San Francisco conducted a medevac of a 55-year-old man from the Merchant Vessel La Boussole, 35 miles West of Pacifica earlier this morning.

The National Vessel Movement Center contacted the Coast Guard at approximately 10:15 p.m. Saturday to report that a crewmember aboard the vessel had experienced a severe hand injury. The La Boussole, a 660-foot container ship from Liberia, was en route to Mexico and was located approximately 1400 miles west of San Francisco at the time.

The Coast Guard directed the vessel to proceed east and to then contact Vessel Traffic Service San Francisco when the ship was 25 miles offshore. This morning, an MH-65C Dolphin helicopter was launched to conduct the medevac.

The patient was taken to Air Station San Francisco, transferred to and awaiting ambulance and then taken to Mills-Peninsula Health Services Hospital for further treatment.
