being the recipient of a new liver in april 2010 i can say that before anyone is even allowed to be put on a waiting list they have to be drug free. including marijuana. i think the reason being is that they think that if your liver is already failing they dont want you to use any drug or alcohol prior to the procedure because maybe there might be the chance of you using after the surgey and possibly going back to alcohol. they also test you consistently for drug use prior to surgery
