REXBURG - For many BYU-Idaho students, the transition from a college approved club to a community based political group was tough.
"Yeah that was difficult for us in the beginning. We're still looking for a permanent office," said Taylor Sherwood, the Rexburg College Republicans President.
The Rex Center has helped out as a temporary location for their meetings.
"Now that we're off campus, we have a mindset that we aren't going to go quietly into the dark. We're meeting candidates running for Congress, we're meeting all kinds of people from around the state and nation that are interested in having our age group involved in the political process," said Sherwood.
Congressional candidate Chick Heileson is a former member of BYU-Idaho's College Republicans.
"It important for kids this age to be involved, they're the ones who are going to be running things later on. it's always been throughout history the dedicated few that make things happen."
The college democrats haven't quite made the off campus transition.
"it's ironic that we were disbanded for a political neutrality policy, and the fact that we're still going and the College Democrats have disappeared is interesting," said Chick Heileson.
The Rexburg College Republicans are still looking for a permanent home because they can't meet on campus any longer.
I appreciate that ;)
