the station is a landmark meaning nothing can be changed without extreme approval first.

Nice video! Here in Finland the last old-fashioned boards were changed to electronic in 2005.

I was told it's because that style of limestone is riddled with fossils that wear away much faster than limestone, most of the openings are small, though some are about as big as a dime.
