Remember that campaign missions were only linear in warcraft 3 onwards, prior to that the story was forged depending on what faction you chose. Later on Blizzard would combine parts from both campaigns to make the official lore. Gul'dan betrayed the orcs sometime before they destroyed Stratholme, Dalaran, and Quel Thalas
