My girlfriend is from Germany and I can tell you something so traditional like this is rather a rarity, even in the south where she is from =)

I actuallylive in the capital of Germany called Berlin...and I get kinda to understand why people from the USA just see the stereotype of Germans... haha There are just very very very small parts of germany where they wear Dirndels and leather trouthers actually. Germans aren't traditional at all actually =)

The oktoberfest is an example for the stereotype haha not for how Germany realy is :) (eventhough i love this fest bc of the beer haha)
you should visit my city..Berlin! It is also the capital and very multicultural :)
