  • @gringoflamenco no, Junior was only with Wills for 2 years in the '40s. :(

    #@!

  • Yes of course it's Leon on steel, he must have been very young then, maybe 19.

This was not long after Bob Dunn had recorded the fist electric steel guitar with Milton Brown. Personally, I like Leon's style better, but both were standard setters and very talented. I will try and find the '36 version of White Heat, but it sounds pretty rare. Thanks for the info

  • Yes it is indeed just as Junior's 1941 recording of Milk Cow Blues with Johnnie Lee Wills on the Decca label. Devil's Blues from same session is even more lowdown and dirtier as Wills would say!

  • That's Leon McAuliffe on Bob Wills 1936 version of 'Bring It On Down To My House Honey' - on steel! Check Leon's amplified six string solo on Bob's 1936 version of 'White Heat'! Not steel but a 6 string standard guitar mic'd and amped! Hot solo too!

  • white dude playing rock n roll in 1946

  • I am trying to figure out if Barnard is the guitar soloist on the 1936 version of Bob Wills "Bring it on down to my house honey". This guy is less famous than comtemporaries Charlie Christian and Django Reinhardt, but just as great in his own way.

  • always hard to pin down the "first", but he and Eldon Shamblin both rocked before there was rock 'n roll!

  • "The first rock n roll guitarist ever" If this is rock and roll guitar than I reckon so is T-Bone Walker's electric guitar solo on Freddie Slack's 1943 hit "Riffette," for one.

  • The first rock n roll guitarist ever, good clip from 1946!
