@SickDog2008 Couldn't have said it better myself....his expression watching the building getting torn down speaks volumes!

The footage of Muswell Hill was an education for me. I know the Davies Bros. grew up there and to see parts of it being demolished must hurt. I'm thinking the earlier song "Dead End Street" might allude to how neighborhoods deteriorate and also the whole Village Green preservation idea. They make you think with their song writing.

Having seen all this live "back in the day", this vid shows, somewhat - what excellent, amazing artists the Kinks were live. Their concerts were always FUN. Nobody had a bad trip at one of these, and there was some trippin' bein' done, believe me! Until 1970, LSD was totally legal. This looks like late '69 or '70 to me, but could be a couple years later - but no Preservation II songs, so...

There's a lot to be said for the quality of their work in the studio, but it pales in comparison to their live performances. Damn, I'd give anything to have Mr. Peabody's wayback machine so I could revisit the Preservation, Soap Opera, Schoolboys In Disgrace, Sleepwalker and Misfits shows. To me, their golden era.

Are the Muswell Hillbillies performances here and on other "Rainbow" vids the ones that are featured on Everybody's in Showbiz? Haven't bothered to look at my lp or cd versions.
Anyway many, many thanks WhiteRose63! This is like the Holy Grail--my fav Kinks period--since I missed it being 9 at the time.

1:56 We are the village green preservation society.
What a pity!

Thank You Very Much WhiteRose63 and greetings from Switzerland!

This live version is way better than the studio one. Too bad this whole thing wasn't longer...should've included the whole show (I counted seven performances, plus the live-in-studio "Moneygoround"). MORE MORE MORE MORE MORE MORE

Ray is such a preservationist.

wow I didn't realise she used to work as a hooker!
Finding these videos is like finding the lost Inca ruins or the continent of Atlantis...Absolutley Amazing, God save the KinKs forever. There was nothing like them and there never will be! and for all we know they still might have a way to go! - Frank Lima, The Montvale, New Jersey Hillblilly Boy aka Dan the Fan

Fabulous stuff. Thanks to you all who are posting these marvellous clips. Brilliant version of this great song. Why, oh why, did we Brits not realise the genius of Ray in the 1970s!
