listen to some of the songs on their new album like afterburner or chasing the bullet, they have not mellowed out lol... they've gotten better.

mellowed out? Listen to their songs Need For Speed or Hellcat or Hammer of The Gods, i don't think they've mellowed out they've gotten better, they have a different sound than the 80's but it isn't the 80's anymore..but this has an 80's feel to it regardless.. Saxon will never die.

I meant to say; "first three albums" but the self-titled debut release was just...weird. I liked it a lot, but it was truly something very different with many unique sounds. I still count Saxon as one of the top heavy metal bands ever, but they have really mellowed out their sound over the years. I know-developed, grew, progressed, whatever you wanna call it, but it's mellower now. Wow, they're still around?! They're due a ton of respect for sticking it out so long!
