On a visit to Christ Church Cathedral in Oxford, I was fortunate to hear the organ being played, which lent so much to the ambience of the place.

  • Hideously loud trumpet, but thanks for the posing.

  • I wonder why the acoustics are so bad here?

  • Yes no one likes it at all. Simon Preston binned the old organ (I think the 32' wood was rescued and went elsewhere), in its place is this Reiger to set your teeth on edge. Totally ott in a very small building with a dry and dead acoustic. Has the ambience of a mortician's lab. Cardinal Wolsey must enjoy haunting his favourite place at night.

  • It's true that this (Rieger) organ is heartily detested by conservative English organ buffs for being too loud, neo-baroque, etc. And the dead acoustics don't help either.

  • hm..

  • one for the bin!

  • nice

  • Organo Strabiliante!!
