It is many things, but "fairy tale" is not one of them, nor is it "written for dumbasses". There are geniuses who devote their entire lives to studying it. It is incredibly nuanced, a literary gold mine; its sheer intellectual weight is the reason these hatemongers misinterpret it.

I don't really hate them as much as pity them. If you've seen some of the documentaries where journalists go and live among them, they act surprisingly good-natured, like regular people. I think they're just incredibly deluded; it's not their fault, but the fault of the cult leader Fred Phelps.

I really feel awful for the children growing up in this cult.
