  • i dont think the US HAS a culture, as we are simply a melting pot of MANY DIFFERENT cultures. because of this, we cannot, as you have said, allow an "official language." many people leave their countries to come to the US to escape from

  • oppression, not to walk into another wall to stop them from living peacefully. i do agree that it would be a whole lot easier if we could all understand and use the same language, but giving those (in this case) spanish speakers a form in their native language encourages them to hold on to their

  • culture. my main point is that printing forms in a second (or third or fourth) language is really not a big deal compared to a lot of the other crap that our country has got itself into. all the money we are wasting (which, one might note, is not even ours) on other things could go towards something more useful, but alas, it does not. thats a shame =/

  • While the 1st amendment states "congress shall write no law," it is expected for any functioning American to know English. Period. I understand that our nation will never allow an official language, but the truth is that we have developed an American culture. What is so wrong with developing our own identity? It's not unconstitutional; it's part of the American Spirit. It just so happens that over time our collective ideas have transformed into what is now our culture. Get used to it.

  • but does anyone care? no. we should have "adapted" to the Native American way, but most feel that because we were "stronger" or "more fit" that we have the "right" to call this land ours. whatever. maybe we should just adapt to accommodate them, as opposed to the other way around. Americans are known all over the world for being the least culturally aware people... maybe we should start by accepting diversity in our own country.

  • the basis of America is freedom, and if we are forced to conform to the "American" way, that is not freedom. America is a place of diversity, not a land in which people must all be the same. sure, we must all understand each other, but why is it that "we" (Americans) never have to adapt to allow for others' differences? shit, we stole this land in the first place, and thus it is not really ours to call home...

  • While people complain that language should not be an issue, think twice when you consider just how different an American lifestyle is compared to third-world countries; that in order to survive in America you have to acclimate to the fundamental demands of our society: knowing English and Americanizing. Its hard enough to become an American, but its that much harder to become one when you don't know the vernacular.

  • Even Canada loves Ron Paul.

    Go Ron 2008!!
