A few seniors in the rocket design course at Texas A&M University in the aerospace department had to wrap the engine in composite. The engine consists of a injector coin, pre combustion chamber, plexiglas fuel grain, post combustion chamber, and nozzle. All of these components were first glued together with epoxy. Once that set, uni-directional carbon graphite was used to wrap the end with the nozzle. After several layers of that was completed, the entire engine assembly was wrapped in carbon graphite cloth with epoxy. The final step including wrapping the engine in plastic and then Thera-Band to hold everything together and squeeze out excess epoxy. This is a time lapse video showing the laying of the composite.
