Upon returning from spring break in Acapulco, Mexico, it became evident to us of the true
destruction that is imposed by humans and their ?vacation getaway? needs. It opened our
eyes to the ?human footprint? that we had learned about in class. We were exposed to the
massive amounts of energy that the resorts require and also to the pollution that
severely damages the once uncontaminated beaches. We realized that this was due to the
overcrowding tourists and their high-maintenance lifestyles, such as air-conditioned
rooms, luxurious in ground pools and a laziness to recycle or dispose their waste. Our
video depicts the parts of Acapulco that have not yet been effected by the invasion of
tourists; the beautiful green trees and untouched mountains show what Acapulco once was,
and could have still been, had humans not created a burden on the environment. But
deforestation from the hotels, eutrophication, and the depletion of marine biology from
the pollution on the beaches all have contributed to Acapulco?s diminishing natural
resources. Our hope in creating this video is to express to viewers that while we might
be enjoying those virgin pina-coladas on the beach, it is also important to respect the
environment in which we live and take an action as simple as throwing away that plastic
cup.

  • I am here now and I am partying yeah!!! Dude!!! Acapulco bit**! But I clean after me always...

  • Well done. The Bay is Actually cleaner than it was 25 years ago. The greatest problem is now providing fresh water and garbage removal around the city. More pollution is coming from the million plus residents than from the hotels.

One of the best things that could be done is a monorail from the airport to Pie de la Cuesta to reduce oil consumption.

  • Thanks girls, you are absolutely right. That is why I plan to open an office there to promote and build alternative energy Solar PV in and around the beautiful area of Acapulco Mexico... I hope to make a difference.... a positive one! Thanks..

  • i'm going to go there to help do my bit for the enviro, think i'll drive there in a big V8 to use more fuel and create more Co2 thus giving us a hotter world cos it's too cold here in the UK.

    global warming....bring it on.

  • dude, im doing a project on acapulco and i will make the environmental severities aware to my classmates. this is important, some how, i gotta to do somthing to make a difference

  • The place is a dump, has been for decades, lots of crime and all the people have STDs. Go to Cancun.

  • yeah, Americans do that in all third world countries as those countries are held to ransom by the Dollar and their need to try to keep up they want to be more like america WHY??

  • pfft the mexican govt. steppin in to clean up yeah that will never ever happen, thats the dirtiest country around damn near

  • nothing better than beautiful people talking intelligently about the stuff that matters

  • I didn't know Acapulco had once been a city of biodiversity. What did you mean by that? From your video, it seems like the most serious problem is overcrowded beaches and litter. What do these issues say about human impacts on the environment?
