George Takei Weds In L.A.

Star Trek's Nichelle Nichols and Walter Koenig stood up for co-star George Takei & husband Brad Altman who were married in Los Angeles, Bill Whitaker reports.

As a straight ally, I was overjoyed for George & Brad as well as Ellen & Portia. Then came Prop "Hate" and I thought they would be torn asunder, but the LGBT community and my fellow allies rose up and, just like George's namesake saint, slew the dragon! Now as for all the churches who bankrolled that unsavory piece of erstwhile legislation when they could have invested in food for hungry children: Does the contempt and disdain you feel for those different from you keep you warm at night? I can't think of a larger waste of time and energy then a ban on gay marriage. Marriage and the definition of marriage has never been the exclusive property of a select group of people. The "sanctity of marriage" that social conservatives advocate and fear will be destroyed by homosexual marriage never really existed. It only ever had the meaning they ascribed to it. Any two human beings have the same capacity and so their marriages are just as valid despite what a backward law may say.
