Global Health TV visits Sinkoro village, Mali, to see international NGO Sightsavers' Mass Drug Administration program which prevents blindness from two neglected tropical diseases; onchocerciasis (river blindness) and trachoma. In 1987, the village was almost abandoned due to the severity of onchocerciasis. Thanks to the efforts of WHO (Onchocerciasis Control Programme) and Sightsavers, which led to the control of the disease, the village is now repopulated and the population is active. Working with the Mali Union of the Blind, Sightsavers also provides rehabilitation services in cases where blindness cannot be prevented or treated.
