Ma was born in Hong Kong, a British Colony, in 1951. British immigration law says that any one born in the British Isles and her colonies are British subjects. The law however was changed in the 1960s to deny Hong Kong-born British subjects their British passports (Ma was ok since he was born in HK before the law was changed). Whatever the law in the UK, being British is the birth right of 3.5 million or so people born in Hong Kong before 1997. No one can take this away from us.
