Tech-metal pioneers WatchTower perform 'Meltdown' at The Backroom in Austin, Texas - May 27, 1990. This was a 'homecoming show' of sorts as the band had recently completed a twenty-four date European tour that included shows in France, West Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Great Britain, and The Netherlands. In typical zany WatchTower fashion, the band concludes the song with a rendition of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles theme.
Original vocalist Jason McMaster joins the band onstage for a blistering rendition of their trademark set-closing 'Meltdown', sharing vocal duties with his hand-picked successor Alan Techhio. This marks the first and only time the two vocalists appeared together on a Watchtower stage.
Unbeknownst to the band at the time, this gig would be their last with Tecchio for almost 20 years. A debilitating hand condition would soon put guitarist Ron Jarzombek on the sidelines for over a year. Facing an uncertain future with WatchTower, Tecchio made the decision to pack it in and return to his native New Jersey.
It wasn't until April 23, 2010 that this lineup would reunite for a performance at the Keep It True XIII festival in Lauda-Königshofen, Germany. WatchTower is currently recording Mathematics, the long-awaited followup to 1989's Control And Resistance.
