  • @JustinJaybrown False. I'm a 6th generation shaker & the teaching passed down all those years has been you never record the songs. The Secretary/Organizer uses a recorder for meeting minutes, but not songs. The songs are sposta be passed down the same way as the teachings - in your heart, thru prayer - not from a book or recorder. Any true shaker knows that. Ask the Bishop how he feels about our songs being recorded next tike you see him.

  • @TheSeidrman songs can be taped ceremonies are strictly not to be taped.

  • @CoastSalishBA they again have tapes of recorded shaker songs people such as the secretary of state and a few ministers I grew up knowing who are trying to help save the songs for the future generations. And again it is the ceremony that is not to be taped. My grandmother was a minister in trinidad california i grew up knowing Alberta Silvia of the Johnson's shaker church in california i grew up knowing the minister of the smith river shaker church and his wife the secretary.

  • @candypantz707 there are actually tapes of old time shaker songs and its the ceremony that is not to be taped

  • Wow i never thot i'd hear a shake song on youtube and i wus taught the same way very sacred songs and not 2 mess around with =\ ur not even suppsd 2 take pics or record in church let alone video tape it or post it on youtube! i love the song tho but still not a place for it! no disprespect 2 those who sang or uploaded it tho just sayn from wut i wus brought up 2 believe! I just happen type it in just 2 see and this came up just said WOW

  • @CoastSalishBA EXACTLY and couldn't have said it any better. I was shocked when I saw this video clip.

  • There really shouldn't be any videos of Indian Shaker songs. Especially on youtube of all places. They are extremely sacred & recorders of any kind were forbidden in services by the elders/leaders back in the day. This teaching is still upheld and respected in many Shaker homes. Johnny Moses or @WAFolkArt don't have the right to make or post any videos like this.

  • @TheSeidrman if you want to see more they have it twice a year in Smith River California at the Indian Shaker Church

  • Is this part of a longer video or series? I'd like to see more if it is, because videos of actual Indian Shaker songs and ceremonies are so rare.
