@JynMeyer - That was the only solution I found that worked. It had to be an external microphone which fed power in. I never tested a USB microphone but if you have one, try that. It may work. I had read of a lot of solutions that did not work for me. One was changing the amount of light hitting the screen when your recording as it overloads the computer (or something like that) but that did not work for me. Hope that helps :)
@subbyson I know that by running a recording software (imovie, finalcut, etc) it causes your processor to work harder therefore requiring the fan to kick up and cool it down. I wonder if a cooler (base) might help? Maybe I can ask iJustine...? :P
@JynMeyer I had tried raising the macbook about 15mm and had a 150m/m electric fan trying to cool it, did not help. I tried using a large cast steel tray to absorb heat, nope, still ramped up the fan but after when I tried the powered mic method, it did not matter if the fan ramped up, the noise did not transfer into the recording. I have moved on and bought a macbook air which is a dream to record on compared to the macbooks and small and extremely powerful compared to the 2008 model macbook.
i intrested in putting some cover songs on youtube using macbook .. do u think if i buy a good usb mic .. then i ll have good quaility sound out of it ?
@seatucker Sorry, took so long to reply. This reply is more for others visiting. Maybe it could work. I had never tested it with a USB microphone but feel it may record without the noise. You may see if a friend has a USB mic you can test with before you buy one. I hope you found a solution.
So basicly the only solution is an external mic?
