"...GRAZIE DI AVERCI DELIZIATO CON LA TUA VOCE SUBLIME..."
SIGNOR GUELFI!
-
One of the greatest baritone voices ever recorded.
-
Wonderful and when he sang with big voiced Gino Penno in Italy it was a very exciting live recording. Not Tosca though.
-
Guelfi's rich, dark timbre was PERFECT for Scarpia, as were his range, power and technical skill - note how his voice soars above the others as this live recording ends --
-
Deliciously evil- one of the great baritone scenes.
Gian was a fabulous Scarpia. Thanks so much for posting. Grazie, Signor Cafiero!

GGG is fantastic as Scarpia...wonderfully

A friend of mine had a friend who once heard Guelfi live as Barnaba at Lyric Opera of Chicago, if memory serves.
That friend-of-a-friend was sitting in a balcony -- which VIBRATED, he insisted, when Guelfi took and sustained the top note of "O, monumento" --

@stevevandien That is very true of a big, well produced voice. I give quite a few lessons these days in a big theater space (about 600 seats) and you can definitely feel the voices vibrations. The sound literally hits you! LOL!
