He used the Master's understand scroll... this scroll makes you do stealth kill on everyone, even bosses... You can make it in Alchemy or find it in missions...

that would be the "master's understanding" scroll.
You can get it by beating Yojimbo.
take on a lot of missions with them you'll eventually get a few, don't know if you can buy them though, it's been a while since i played.
