Eric Reed's Tenor Madness band (Stacy Dillard, Seamus Blake, Willie Jones III, Dezron Douglas) introduces two new compositions dedicated to friends: "Prayer" (A Song of Healing) which is dedicated to the ailing pianist George Cables & bassist Dennis Irwin and "New Morning" (A Song of Hope) dedicated to Melanie Whitson, a high school friend. The performance of "Prayer" is from Saturday, March 8, 2008; Dennis Irwin, who was stricken with a spinal tumor, died the following Monday.

Something moving and spiritual for a few of Eric Reed's (he's the pianist/composer ) friends who were stricken with illnesses. It was done in tribute for a friend who died of a spinal tumor, and died the following Monday.

I was lucky enough to catch one of these shows at Dizzy's in March. I wept all the way through New Morning. So beautiful. Thank you for sharing.
