Late Mr. Mohammed Rafi was not only gifted with a divine voice, he was also a very humble and considerate individual. He would help out struggling music directors and would sing for them virtually for nothing.
And he would give his best to these songs. There are countless Rafi songs sung for anonymous music directors which were picturised on forgotten/ forgettable actors. This beautiful song is one of them!

Mohammed Rafi (Hindi: मोहम्मद रफ़ी, Urdu: محمد رفیع; December 24, 1924 July 31, 1980), often addressed as Rafi Sahib, was an Indian playback singer whose career spanned four decades and is one of the most versatile male singers in the history of Indian cinema. Rafi sang in many Indian languages including Hindi, Urdu, Bhojpuri, Punjabi, Bengali, Marathi, Sindhi, Kannada and Telugu. He also recorded English and Persian songs. He is primarily remembered, however, for his Hindi songs, which still remain very popular in India today and also among the Indian diaspora. He dominated the Bollywood music industry from the 1950s to the 1970s along with Mukesh, Manna Dey, and Kishore Kumar.

Between 1950 and 1970, Rafi was one of the most sought after singers in Bollywood.

In 1965, he was honoured by the Government of India with the Padma Sri award.

On Thursday, July 31, 1980, Rafi died at 10:50 p.m., following a massive heart attack. His last song was "Shaam phir kyun udaas hai dost" (Aas Paas), which he had recorded with Laxmikant-Pyarelal couple of hours before his death. He was survived by four sons (Saeed Rafi, Khalid Rafi, Hamid Rafi, Shahid Rafi), 3 daughters (Parveen, Nasreen, Yasmin) and 18 grandchildren. Naushad wrote on Rafi's Death- " Goonjte hai teri awaz ameero ke mahal me. jhopro ki gharibon me bhi hay tere saaz, yu to apne mousiki par sab ka fakr hota hai magar ay mere saathi mousiki ko bhi aaz tujh paar naaz hai "

Rafi's funeral procession was recorded on a very rainy day in Mumbai. A portion of that same recording has been used in one of the Hindi movie released later. It was one of the biggest funeral processions mumbai had ever witnessed, with over 10,000 people attending.

The Padma Shri Mohammed Rafi Chowk in the Bandra suburb of Mumbai is named after Rafi. Lata Mangeshkar quotes on Rafi- " saral man ke insan Rafisab, bahut suriley the, yea meri khus kismati hai ke maine unke saath sabse jada gana gaye. gana kaise bhi wo aise ga lete the ke gana na samajhne wale bhi bah bah kar utht te the. Aise gayak bar bar janam nahi lete."

A documentary about Rafis life is under production by The Films Division of India.

On September 22, 2007 a shrine to Rafi designed by artist Tasawar Bashir was unveiled in Birmingham. Bashir is hoping that Rafi will attain sainthood as a result.

Awards; * 2001 - Rafi was honored with the "best singer of the millennium" by Hero Honda and Stardust magazine in Mumbai on Jan 7, 2001.

Government Awards; * 15Th Aug 1947 - Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru given hug after his song * 1948 - Rafi received a silver medal from the Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, on the first anniversary of the Indian Independence Day. * 1965 - he was honoured with the Padmashri by the Government of India.

ur belief is correct! earlier on tapes and now on cd's; i've a collection of almost all the songs i like including this one. The very first time i listened 2 dis song in Rafi Saab's Rare Gems collection part1or 2. That collection is one of d best compiled

by HMV.. I must admit that i never used 2 visit dis site before i got 2 know dat dis site hosts almost u name it n dey 've it kinda stuff. I visit dis site to 4 these oldies

I 've grown up listening to these music; thanx 2 my parents 4 that. However i never knew dat this melody was filmed on sujeet kumar n dat unknown actor. Forget the picturisation of this song & u will never cease 2 appreciate this n hundred's of other melodies sung by our beloved, son of God himself Mohd. Rafi saab.

I don't know if u r of young generation like me or not but if u r then i m very pleased 2 know dat people still r blessed wid devine taste n aroma 2 appreciate d real Gem. Thanx :-)

Thank for uploading one more rare song of Rafi. C.Arjun also composed music of Punarmilan, Mein aur Mera Bhai. There is a long list of MDs who composed only for one two or three films but are still remembered for those songs. Ram Lal,Lachhi Ram,N.Dutta,G.S.Kohli,Sardar Malik,Jamal Sen,S.mohinde,Suhridkar.

We must thank B or C or whatever grade films that gave us chance to hear such melodies of those talented MDs.
