This is a compilation of bloopers--refusals, near falls, etc.--from the 2009 State 4-H Horse Show. The clips were taken from all of the classes, including Working Hunter, Equitation Over Fences, and Open Jumping. They include both ponies and horses. Riders fall between 8 and 18 years old.

I do not know any of the horses or riders personally. I have no idea how much experience, training, or talent any of them have. For some of them, it may have just been a bad day--or just one bad jump (you only see the bloopers, so you have no way of knowing how the rest of their course was). For others, they may have been overfaced or not properly prepared. Please withhold judgement on the riders/horses, since you do not know them.

4-H is a pretty big thing in our state, but the majority of our riders/horses participate in the all-around performance events (Western Pleasure, Horsemanship, HUS, Eq, etc.) or speed events. We have a lot of AQHA youth that also show 4-H, so the quality of the rest of the horses is often very high as those horses/riders have often shown frequently at high levels. However, our state is not one with a lot of hunter/jumper riders, so the quality of those classes is usually lower (with less experienced riders, lower quality horses, and/or horses/riders who do not show often).

There were no falls in the classes (I didn't watch the warmup), but there were a few close calls. No horses or riders were hurt.

  • Can I ask, what is 4-h??

  • @bettsa15 It's a program for youth (18 & under)...there are a lot of different parts of it (everything from horses to livestock to cooking and sewing and so on) and you can choose which part you want to do. For the horse project, there are horse shows and other opportunities available for the members. It's just supposed to be an educational program to encourage kids to get involved in something, although the aspects can vary by state.

  • Ok NONE Of These Kids Are Good Enough To Be Jumping! If I Were The Horse Id Just Throw Them RIGHT OFF! This Is REALLY STUPID And UNSAFE!

  • @DallasFreak3 So you've NEVER had a bad jump or, heaven forbid, a bad class? These are the bloopers. Some of these horses/riders had successful rounds with just one "bad" fence, and that's what I showed on video. Some did have an all-out bad round...but there were only a few that I would say really weren't prepared (and even then, maybe they normally did great at home and just had a meltdown here). A lot of these bloopers are just simple, ordinary refusals...the kind every beginner has.

  • @232CMack - According to your other comment, you've been a trainer for 25 years, but according to your channel, you're only 20 years old. And according to both your comments, you don't seem to realize that even the best horses and riders (and therefore certainly the beginner level that you see at a 4-H show) make mistakes. If you were an experienced trainer, you'd know that everyone has a bad ride occasionally. This is a blooper video. It doesn't mean there weren't plenty of good rides.

  • precisely why I don't do 4H anymore. Too many of the riders have no business jumping or showing, it's just dangerous.

  • The good thing is none of them came out of the saddle and on to the ground!! :)

  • GAHHH get after these horses, they are learning to refuse the jumps....

  • Where was this?

  • @NaturalJumper1032 i think some of them did...

  • Bad day, eh?

  • Did none of them have a crop for encouragement over these fences when the horses refused? But, maybe they would have gotten crop happy had they had one...

  • @DallasFreak3 actually maggie its not. because these kind of things just happened to you with dallas, at a past show, and did that mean you weren't good enough to jump!? NO. it meant you had a bad day, and so did they, they are clearly good riders.
