Let's Get Together (Chester Powers)

By all accounts mercurial and divisive, Dino Valenti (Chester (Chet) William Powers, Jr. (October 7, 1937 -- November 16, 1994)) composed what perhaps could be considered the quintessential love and peace ballad of the 60's counterculture movement, oft recorded (The Jefferson Airplane, The Youngbloods) and making it to the top 40 in the case of The Youngbloods. Dino himself is here presented in the first ever recorded version, a demo released a generation later on the collection, Someone to Love: Birth of the San Francisco Sound, Big Beat [UK] #170 (10/96)

"An itinerant folkie, one of many who made the progression from the coffee houses of Greeenwich Village to the West Coast in the early 1960s. Valenti was a rough, macho performer who paradoxically adopted the role of a romantic minstrel and wrote sensitive, worldly songs to match..." - Alec Palao, Love is the Song We Sing, San Francisco Nuggets 1965-1970

  • @psycheric50 he actually wrote it, if im not mistaking

  • so much soul... try to love one another right now!

  • great cover version by Dino of QMS !

  • RIP Dino...

  • @TheQuicksilverdog Yeah he did, serious fuck up there with the royalties it made from other people's covers. Such a shame. I know alot of QSM fans didn't like him rejoining the band but I never had a problem with it. The "jam" aproach that QSM had before was great but was only going to go so far. He brought more og a song writers approach to the band and wrote a total anthem with Fresh Air.

  • @ndnjensen98 member of the great quicksilver messenger service , a band that was far better than they thought they were .

  • Always an incredible voice!

  • NEVER KNEW THAT! BELOW COMMENT.

  • Dino wrote this song & never got the credit he deserved or money for it. I heard he sold the rights to his song for $50.00 to get bail for a marijuana bust in 1964.

  • and this song is really good !!!!!!!!! and i mean really good !
