千と千尋の神隠し, Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi Sen and Chihiro's Spiriting Away) is a 2001 Japanese animated film written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki and produced by Studio Ghibli. The film views a sullen ten-year-old girl in the middle of her family's move to a new town (presumably the countryside) and her adventures in a world of spirits and monsters.
The film received many awards, including the second Oscar ever awarded for Best Animated Feature, the first anime film to win an Academy Award, and the first (and so far only) non-English speaking animation to win. The film also won the Golden Bear at the 2002 Berlin International Film Festival (tied with Bloody Sunday) and is among the top ten in the BFI list of the 50 films you should see by the age of 14.
Spirited Away overtook Titanic in the Japanese box office to become the highest-grossing film in Japanese history

@ActiviztA1 this movie was animated and made by studio ghibli and the great director hayao miyazaki :) disney had nothing to do with the making of this flim. same with howl's moving castle disney supplies the english dub..you should watch some other studio ghibli films might i suggest totoro, ponyo, and princess monoke

@ActiviztA1 thats because disney only sponsored it and help make it into mainstream american theatres. It's not a disney movie it's a Miyazaki movie. Disney only probably helped find us voice actors and helped it into US theatres in exchange for a share of the profits and its name on it

kinda not disney-like kind of animation.. but looks like a good movie nonetheless.. same howl's moving castle.. doesn't relaly look disneyesque. hehe

I always got a kick out of the fact that my mom still can't wrap her mind around this movie while I've understood it since the moment I first watched it at like five years old :p
