Cholesteatoma is an otological condition whereby there is accumulation of entrapped keratin (skin turn-over) which can expand to involve the air cells in the temporal bone. Mastoid surgery will be performed in progressive disease and varies form limited surgery (atticoantral) to the more radical surgery (modified or radical mastoid). This video shows a well epitheliazed mastoid cavity of the left ear in a patient who had mastoid surgery performed for cholesteatoma. The eustachian tube opening can be seen with the remnant of eardrum inferiorly.
