In 1966 Burt Bacharach and Hal David wrote four songs just for Jackie. (Yeah, this girl was very respected in the music business). "Come and Get Me" was released as a single only in 1966 but only managed to climb to #83 on the Billboard single charts. It's certainly no "What the World Needs Now Is Love" but quite a pleasant effort anyway.
This song is sooo great. It really captures the moment in time with Jackie and other contemporaries such as Dionne Warwick, Dusty Springfield, Petula Clark, etc. The sound is 60s British and Wall of Sound at the same time, brilliantly written and produced by Bacharach and David. What a haunting and devastating song.
@torridscene Yes Chart position be damned. It's because of that chart and people's bad taste in music today that we have the music we do today and not efforts like this.
Ahem, "Quite a pleasant effort" ? Ah, I see. DeShannoninmyheart, you are not a musician. I am. This song has TEN times the complexity, sophistication, and emotional drama than that of "What The World Needs Now, " and only Jackie can sing it. Bacharach himself said there were certain songs of his which only Dionne or Jackie could sing, and this song, along with another Bacharach tune, "So Long, Johnny," is a great example of Jackie DeShannon's amazing talent.
Haunting & mesmerizing gem specially written for Jackie (Bacharach/David) and what a soulful yet sensitive vocal...should have been a huge hit but programmers missed so many of these classic ones...Bravo Jackie, this is sublime & timeless!
