This is a ferrocement rainwater storage tank built at my off-grid cabin in South Carolina. The tank was built in 3 continuous days by the technologists in the video.

The tank is approximately 300 gallons and the material list is as follows:
10 bags Quickrete premixed concrete(foundation)
8 bags mortar mix(inner/outer plaster)
1 roll chicken wire
1 roll 1/4" wire roll
salvaged rebar
salvaged plumbing
total material costs less than $150

The plumbing connections and roof will be added at a later date.

Appropriate Technologists:
Matt Fedorko
Stony Oswald

Background music: Buttons and Bows by David Grisman on album Dog Duos

  • This shit is retarded

  • these type of tanks are fantastic ,there are some real dumb asses in the world,,if you want proof ,just read the dumb arse comments below

  • @LESTERBATE dude you make a lot of good (and true) points. and yes this one is not the best construction. but makeing permanent water storage (cistern) concrete is one of the cheapest ways to go. plus if done by professionals or someone who knows what they are doing, the inside surface can get pretty smooth polished even. for easy cleaning, the idiot you were talking too realy dont know crap as i am sure you figured out. but just pointing out that concrete is a great storage container.

  • FOR MY MONEY, AND FOR MY LAZINESS, I WOULD USE A WOOD OR PLASTIC BARREL AND THEN PURIFY THE WATER USING A BERKEY WATER SYSTEM USING THE BLACK BERKEY. IF YOU WANT TO KNOW A GOOD COMPANY TO BUY ONE, SEND ME A MESSAGE. MIGHT USE A BIT OF CHLORINE OR UV LIGHT AS WELL.

  • @datzfast - Again, you do not know what you are talking about. Tile needs a grout line which collects dirt, bacteria, etc. plus it can leak. Look at any tile floor. Supplying and installing is as cheap as paint? Really?? Have fun on a curved surface like your tank. Pressure wash? How about a brush and some diluted clorox and you are done. Good luck in life. I feel sorry for you. Last post.

  • @LESTERBATE better idea is to tile the inside with ceramic tile. its as cheap as the paint and it can be pressure washed spotless if needed. your ideas really suck

  • If you want to build your own tank, get some cinder blocks and build one. Be sure to plaster the inside for a smooth surface and better yet paint the inside with an epoxy paint after the plaster dries (could take a couple weeks), otherwise the paint could bubble.

  • @datzfast - There are many companies that make plastic tanks for drinking water. I make NSF certified fiberglass water storage tanks for drinking water storage. Neither taint the water with any plastic taste. What you built is a joke and it appears that you never completed it. Your tank has such a rough surface that it is a breeding ground for bacteria and would be very difficult to clean/disinfect. You are a moron. I suspect you are a victim of inbreeding. Do you disagree?

  • what did you use for the roof?
