Vigil at Adelanto Detention Center

On Sept. 28 the Inland community, along with community leaders and immigrant rights activists conducted a vigil outside the Adelanto Detention Center.
The immigration detention center in Adelanto, Ca is the first in the Inland Empire. The facility will be run and operated by GEO Inc. a for-profit corporation via contracts with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The for-profit immigration detention center will yield estimates of $43 in profit for GEO Inc. in the first year of operations at Adelanto. GEO and other major private prison corporations have lobbied heavily in favor of anti-immigrant legislation in the country, such as SB 1070.
The candle light highlighted the immoral and disturbing premise of for-profit immigration detention facilities. As wel as express sorrow for the lack of immigration reform in this country that has yielded the expansion of detention centers.
