The Afar Depression (also called the Danakil Depression or the Afar Triangle) is a geological depression in the Horn of Africa, where it overlaps Eritrea, the Afar Region of Ethiopia, and Djibouti. Afar is well known as one of the cradles of hominids, containing the Middle Awash, site of many fossil hominid discoveries; Gona, site of the world's oldest stone tools; and Hadar, site of Lucy, the fossilized specimen of Australopithecus afarensis.

  • @Swidhelm check out the pharyngula article about this...

  • @Kyrandia2006 It is i believe, you can tell the way she pronounces words. Like "lies" and "Lava"

  • the what monkey?

  • I want the whole video, where can I get it?.

  • fake and gay

  • She sounds like Cortana (Jen Taylor) from the halo series

  • she sounds like Sigourney Weaver...

  • who is this woman? why isnt David Attenborough narrating?

this woman sounds so monotone to point of sounding partially sedated, and furthermore she is not David Attenbourough!

  • ?? The version I have is narrated by David Attenborough. Who is this?

  • i would just recommend an armed escort incase of bandits, or other things. But the afar people wont cut your head off, you just need to hire someone who can speak afar, to negotiate things with the chief. All in all, we treat our guests with alot of respect, and will even avenge their death, if something wrong happens.

  • A5Unit: If that's a Muslim area and I need an armed escort, I'd rather not go there. I don't want my head cut off. But gee, if I lived in the middle of nowhere and someone I never saw before showed up, my natural reaction would be to welcome them and give them help so they could enjoy their visit. Visitors certainly wouldn't need guns.

  • its a matter of trust.. how would you feel if you lived in the middle of nowhere and had some person you never seen in your life just show up?? im from this region, so im just telling u, n yes were muslims. but if u want to visit u shud hire someone who is armed and can speak the langauge

  • A5Unit: Are you saying that the people inhabiting this region would kill me just for visiting their beautiful land? What kind of people are those? Muslims?

  • its tribal land. So, the people inhabiting this region maybe unpredictable towards outsiders

  • AlineBRRB: Did you go there? And what are the dangers? I'm thinking about a trip there in 2009.

  • Yes, you can visit it, but it´s so dangerous...

  • Can anyone visit the Danakil Depression or is it just too dangerous? Must you go there by helicopter or can you drive to it? It looks like an interesting place to explore/visit. I'd like to see it.

  • Brilliant! I've visited the Danakil and this video really captures what it's like.
