Had my own parachute course last summer, but I wonder why some para's tie up their Slider?

People 'tie up' their slider for a faster opening. i.e. if you were doing a 'hop & pop' you may want the canopy to open immediately after you throw the pilot chute. The closed slider will cause the canopy to catch air immediately and inflate more promptly. Hope that helps :o)
