I think my definition is a bit fluffy but orgasms definitely aren't mandatory... More like 2 or more people and/or some form of genitals/bottoms being involved... there are other things which I would probably class as sex which might not fit that though...

I would say: At least one person and the presence of sexual arousal reached through deliberate acts of stimulation. So that would include masturbation and e.g. phone sex.

@OtherGonzo Did you know, that in sex therapy and "marital councelling" it is not uncommon to ask a couple to have sex the way they would, but they are not allowed to have an orgasm for a few weeks or months? So there must be a benefit to a sexual experience without orgasm at least in some situations? Maybe try it?

@RitchandFamous That's probably oversimplifying but yes, that about states it. Of course if you are doing something that can reasonably be assumed to be heading toward an orgasm then that would still be sex. But I do think any sex should include at least one orgasm.

I think it's more of an obsession with sex being for reproduction, not pleasure.

A book I'm reading discusses this :-)

You're reminding me of an EffingDykes post (that might have been a guest post of hers somewhere else) where she talked about this. And she was typing out a fictional scenario wherein the dialogue ended up, "What happens next?!" "I don't know, there's no dick!" *panic ensues*

Agreed. This is the truth.

also if you feel like it was sex, it was
My standard is (at least 2 people) + (at least 1 orgasm) = sex

@OtherGonzo So no matter how much rimming and blowing, for no matter how long, if it doesn't result in any orgasms, then you didn't have sex?
