Very nice job! I hope all your fans realize that's a A-102 your playing. For all those who don't know, it has the same guts as a B-3,
the home version!

@theivorywizard Nice rig!

spot on. a leslie has two spinning drums or horns inside the case that create that inimitable enveloping sound. The small black half-moon switch you see in the centre bottom of the picture, attached to the bottom keyboard controls the speed. They're just simply incredible bits of kit

is there sheet music for this

Is a "leslie" one of those huge external speakers that spins inside of a cabinet to produce that certain sound? I don't know....it's just what I've ready. Don't know that much about organs.

I don't know alot of technical stuff on Hammonds, but how'd you hookup headphones to the Leslie? I have no idea what kind of connectors other than the Hammond connector and the volume switch there are behind a Leslie.
My other guess would be click track but that doesn't work well with jazz/gospel.

Hey! Thanks for writing me. Regarding the headphones...check this out. I actually miked the leslie in three places...two on the horn and a kick drum mic on the bass rotor. I ran that to a mixer and recording console and I have some reverb going through that as well. I simply am listening to the recording mix through the headphones.

Ohhhhh, dude.....you got the magic. That's groove right there. That was so smooth and gorgeous. There is NOTHING like a really good jazz organ tune. I you had a CD I would buy it right now.
I notice you play the bassline with your left hand instead of using foot pedals. Just curious, but why?
DivisiveOffering 4 years ago
That's the traditional way of playing jazz on B3. Jimmy Smith always played bass with his left hand and pushed the bass pedal just for an added effect. Thank you for your kind words, friend. Best Wishes!
